To everyone who reads this, I hope you are having a great day.

I was taught a lesson yesterday evening but was saved by the habits that I learned long ago.

Always, Always back up your system.

Those of you on the forum late last night may have noticed that the forum and autoresponder disappeared. This was not by design. I was doing an upgrade (looking to install a Helpdesk ticketing system to aid tracking queries) and hit the wrong button. My eldest son destracted me regarding Manchester United and I deleted, yes deleted the whole Wicomarketing forum.

Thankfully I had justed backed up 919mb worth of data. That is what is sitting in this Forum. Have all of you downloaded it all?

The forum was able to be re-created and was back up in an hour.

So........... Always, Always, Always back up your systems. Make copies of all your important information, put it on CD/DVD, make multiple copies. Because when something goes wrong, and it will, you will be able to recover. Not necessarily everything (The autoresponder is working but is issueing an error message confirming sending of the mail but Will be fixed shortly) but near enough.

I have been working in IT for over 18 years. Things happen. Systems break, so do back up.

As I said, I was saved (and so was this forum) by my habits installed long ago. Make sure that you develop the same. You have been warned.

Patrick

Administrator
